To
see the village where they live and work today,
peasants and craftsmen of clay. These craftsmen work
in caves dug into the tufa continuing a tradition
craft flourishing in the XVI and XVII. In the center
of this village is the church of S. Maria del Mastro
century by Byzantine architecture but with a
seventeenth-century facade. A little further up
there's the Borghetto, where we can admire, as a
host of many medieval houses sometimes supported by
stone arches. |

The City
High, the Piazza del Tocco, a scenic terrace
with the church's simple Nunziatella
Byzantine architecture of the ninth century,
the oratory dell'Addolorata in baroque
style. In front of the Forum where you can
admire the apses of the Cathedral. The
Cathedral is dedicated to the absolute
largest church in Calabria and one of the
most important.
In the same square and then, as well
all'ottocentesca Church of the Sacred Heart,
with a wonderful majolica floor, there is
the Church of St. Giovannelli, a small
building that dates back to X-XI century.
Inside there is a well that was used in
ancient times, certainly, as the baptismal
font.
The Castle was a refuge for people in case
of danger in the city. It was built in the
Norman period (1057-1060), from the cliff
you can see the sea as well as a vast
panorama. Only a few kilometers away are the
Baths of Antonimina with salt-water Iodic
Water, already known by the Greeks, thanks
to their healing qualities. |
